Cape Flattery : A Hidden Beauty

Day 3 of our Olympic Peninsula road trip, we took a short detour from our Olympic NP tour to catch a glimpse of this beauty. And boy was it worth it.

Cape Flattery

Located on the far side of the Makah reservation, is a hidden gem. A bit of a drive, but worth every mile.

Once we arrived at the trail head, a 1.5 mile flat, wooden path carried us through the misty forest to multiple cliffside outlooks. When we first arrived, the cape was filled with morning fog. At first, we were disappointed that we had driven all this way only to be engulfed in the mist. We patiently waited and, after numerous teasings, the fog cleared up enough for us to appreciate the view (and snap a few pics of course).

Tips:

  • Technically, a Makah recreation permit is required in order to access this trail. A permit is available for $10 and instructions for purchasing one can be found on the Makah tribe’s website: https://makah.com/activities/.
  • Some of the best views we found were off of the trail (No foliage was harmed in the making of these photographs!).
